For summer 2010, one of my favorite mag’s Monocle, has a new addition to its editorial calendar. The Monocle Mediterraneo newspaper features a mix of essays, reportage, interviews and fashion. The specially curated summer newspaper will be accompanied by the Summer Series, a weekly audio show that will be broadcast on Monocle.com with live music and debate on Fridays at 12.00 CET.

Sounds and looks like must have material to read and listen to on your holiday destination of choice…

Time for your power-nap.

In the near future Dubai Airport will offer a handy and well designed solution for exhausted travelers: “The Sleep Box”.

Sleep Boxes are small cubicle spaces that people can book for a set time period to catch some sleep. It offers a small resting space while you wait for that connection in few hours. Of course it doesn’t come with attached washroom…you can use a public one for that. The Sleep Boxes are well designed and give space to sit and sleep.

Last summer we visited Hongkong and were very impressed with onpoint retailers I.T. Basicly they own the place when it comes down to brands like: a.p.c, Margiela, Comme des garcons, Isabel Marant, Victor & Rolf etc. So when in Hongkong be sure to check’m out.

Now they have opened their latest flagship store on ice house street. designed by architect laurent deroo of a.p.c. fame, the 3,058 sq.ft. store is dominated by shades of natural wood, contrasted by black twist metal panels that lead customers from the ground floor entrance to the basement area. The shop interior features a rough cement floor complements asymmetric arc corners formed by black aluminum panels with birch shelves. the store features a sharp mix of hot menswear and womenswear brands, including kitsuné, gareth pugh, isabel marant, viktor & rolf and rad hourani.

location: 10 ice house street, shop b10 [central].

Berlin round up.

We’re back in town, after a short but intense Berlin weekend. We’ll share some of our ‘findings’:

Sage restaurant: industrial place on the Spree river (Kreuzberg), nice feel and some great German food on the menu, we got stuck in on the classic Wiener Schnitzel….. (it’s so f*cking big it’ll feed three hungry adults).

Cookies club: classic in the Berlin club scene, only opens on Tuesday and Thursday. Main room featured some 90’s quality house tunes, a welcome variation to all the minimal and electro that’s going on in Berlin.

The Bird: two guy’s from New York serving Berlin’s best burgers. They’re not very fond of vegetarians, Mc Donald’s and customers who use cutlery to eat their burger..

Rodeo club: a stunning looking place (former post office), the food is supposed to be great (we heard, we don’t eat there), but the party afterwards is not worth the trouble, the dj’s in both rooms were amongst the worst we ever heard.

Oh yes, tomorrow we’ll be going out on our annual trip to Berlin. Always packed with new shops/ places/ people/ bars/ clubs/ restaurants etc etc. Standard item on our trip is a visit to our friend (koreaanse) Mark. Who’s is the uncrowned king of coffee in Berlin.

If your ever in Berlin (Prenzlauer berg area), be sure to check out his place for topnotch espresso’s, latte’s, capo’s etc.
